We were fortunate enough to be a 2014 partner with the Future Prep IChallengeU program this summer! IChallengeU is an intense two week summer opportunity for students to work with master teachers from across the Ottawa Area Intermediate School District. The student groups are comprised of high school students who apply to be part of the program, earning them college credit while working to develop solutions to real world problems posed by a local partnering organization.
Our student group represented Grand Haven, Spring Lake and Zeeland to which we asked how Jack’s Waterfront Bistro + Bar could increase awareness and local patronage from the greater tri-cities area in the off-season (October-May)?
The students talked with our human resources, restaurant managers, and marketing director to understand the property as a whole; meetings were held, property tours were given and their master teachers from Grand Haven and Spring Lake gave them a tour of the town and introduced them to area experts.
Together they worked over the two week period to respond to/solve the problem to be presented in front of a panel of judges comprised of business, civic and education leaders at a final ceremony. Their solution was “Bridging of the Seasons” which the Holiday Inn marketing team plans to implement select suggestions into the 2014/15 marketing plan!
While our group proved to be a strong competitor until the end, we were informed our students did not win, but they were repeatedly commended on their outstanding presentation skills. It was a pleasure working with these highly skilled and knowledgeable students and wish them the best of luck in their future endeavors.
