Day Two – Lighthouse Tour:  Manistee North Pierhead Lighthouse

Cadillac HI ExpressAfter visiting our last lighthouse in Ludington we drove all the way out to Cadillac to spend the night. Why?… because the Holiday Inn in Ludington was full and we rather drive an extra two hours (there and back) than break our Holiday Inn loyalty. Tired, sore and just plain ready for bed, we headed east following the GPS taking Molly’s city driving to back roads, weaving over hills, around curves and through fields of deer. Let just say we survived the drive making it to Cadillac with time to go through Wendy’s drive-thru and hit the sack for the night.

Manistee Lighthouse

Day Two started in Manistee.  Intertwined in a residential area we finally made our way to the local Coast Guard Station in which the Manistee North Pierhead Lighthouse is situated in front of. Making our way out to the catwalk we were reminded of our lighthouse in Grand Haven, however this lighthouse stood a tall white, spots of extensive rust showing its age. Walking towards the lighthouse the weather was absolutely gorgeous with clear blue skies matching the crystal water. After enjoying the start of our day at such a serene setting we decided it was time to grab some lunch. Coming in to the area we had Big Al's BBQ Pizzapassed Big Al’s Pizza and noticed a large banner showing their pizza had be recognized by Pure Michigan; so despite our loyal Facebook friends recommendations we decided to stop. A TV crew was leaving as we arrived, recording them again for another title they had claimed locally. Walking in it looks like a traditional hometown pizza joint, but the pizza they serve is so much more. We decided to change it up and go with a barbeque chicken pizza, which was served fast, hot and delicious! After devouring the pizza between the two off us, we said our goodbyes and headed towards the next lighthouse.
