Looking back at 2012, it’s been a whirlwind. We don’t know where to begin or end…

Early in the year, our maintenance crew entered the Winterfest Cardboard Sled Race, sliding down the hill in a replica of Jack’s signature tiki pole! Although we didn’t win, we are looking to return to the hill in 2013!

In March, Chef Todd and select area wine experts invited you to explore a unique perspective in both wine and paired cuisine. Whether a novice or aficionado this event took the guess work out of making dining enjoyable in the four month session taking place March through June. The series started off slow, but by June we were sold out! We want to give thanks to  our vendors who helped with linens and décor throughout the series, without them the experience wouldn’t have been quite as unique!

We received the opportunity to jump on board with West Michigan Tourist Association and area CVBs in the task of attending Michigan Day at Union Station in Chicago. From the moment we stepped off the train we were stuffing over 3,000 bags full of literature on Michigan Tourism! The people we met, relationships formed and the witness of true dedication to Michigan made us proud, not only of the state we live in but of the people we get the pleasure of working with!

As we dug into the Summer months, an event we still hear buzz over is the incident of the Toyota RAV4 that backed into a front loader, then managed to drive over our bank and crash into a boat docked in the surrounding marina. With all the amenities Holiday Inn and Jack’s has to offer the Lake Express has yet to be established.

We were able to be part of the humbling experience, as we assisted The Make a Wish Foundation host a birthday party for a four year old Muskegon boy battling eye cancer. Staff members were very honored to be part of such a touching moment as a family, community, and the Make A Wish Foundation came together to witness another wish granted.

This summer the Tri-Cities Bike Path addition was complete creating the connector from Ferrysburg to Spring Lake. The path has helped bikers, hikers and all around outdoor enthusiasts stay connected and safe as they no longer have to trek through our parking lot to enjoy the tri-cities trail network.

The Holiday Inn Spring Lake offers help to a variety of organizations throughout the year, with many of our hosted events providing proceeds to different organizations in need. This year, Holiday Inn Spring Lake partnered up with the Grand Haven Lighthouse Conservancy to put on what will become our signature event to reoccur annually. The event proceeds go directly to help in the Lighthouse Conservancy’s efforts to restore and maintain the Lighthouse and Foghouse. The Glowing for Grand Haven event that took place on August 1, 2012 entailed a silent auction showcasing local West Michigan artists work, centered around the lighthouse and nautical theme. The night continued on with a Black Light Party serving signature glow in the dark drinks in Jack’s Lounge. The profits were finally compiled and today, Holiday Inn Spring Lake was able to attend the Lighthouse Conservancy’s monthly meeting where we presented them a check for over $3000 from our first year’s event! We want to give a special thanks to all of our sponsors who helped get the event off the ground and running, along with the generous donations provided by local artists. Get ready for 2013!

We are so thankful for our military families! Our troops serve with great honor and bravery and ask for little in return. In partnership with USO of Illinois, our Grand Haven Spring Lake Holiday Inn developed a special thank you program for military families and their sacrifices and service to our country.  A selected family is offered a  getaway weekend for up to 20 people, accommodations, dinner and breakfast, courtesy of the Holiday Inn. Our first military family enjoyed their October visit and we plan to continue the program on a monthly basis through the Spring of 2013!

Last but not least 2012 has brought renovations to Jack’s and our banquet facilities!  The hotel rooms were completed during the summer of 2011 and now with an updated restaurant and completely new bar Holiday Inn Spring Lake is going full bore ahead. You can expect the return of events like the Love, Wine and Chocolate event in February, and the Waterfront Bridal Expo in November.  You can expect great things from us in 2013!

To round out the year, we want to thank you; our hotel guests for staying with us, our patrons at Jack’s for the loyalty, and the locals for the much needed support we thrive off throughout the year. Without you, we would not be where we are today. You can be assured that, we are raising the bar with guest satisfaction, quality service, and a greater appreciation for you each day. With that we look forward to bringing in 2013 with you at our New Year’s Eve party! We wish you all cheer, prosperity and health throughout the following years!
